چکیده

When traditional sintering techniques are used it is difficult to obtain dense materials with nanometric or submicrometric grain sizes. Microwave sintering was proposed as an alternative technique to overcome the problems of conventional fast heating. However, various problems usually occur when ceramics are sintered by direct microwave heating [1]. Hybrid heating techniques, which combine direct microwave heating with infrared heat sources were proposed [2]. Microwave sintering of microand nanoalumina powders mixed together was studied in a recent past, in the frame of a cooperation between the Universities of Krasnoyarsk and ToulouseINP. Toulouse worked with Pechiney powders and Krasnoyarsk with homemade powders by explosion in a bomb. The aim was to obtain pills as dense as possible. To aid in understanding the process of microwave sintering, we created a 3D model corresponding to the experiment performed.

Effect of ball milling on reactive microwave sintering of MgO-TiO2 System

Abstarct  In this paper, effect of mechanical activation on microwave reactive sintering of MgO - TiO2 system was investigated. Mixtures of MgO and TiO2 were milled at different times. Mixed powders along with 10 h milled powders were chosen for microwave sintering between 1000- 1400⁰C. Results showed that increasing of temperature up to 1400̊C for mixed powders could not give rise to complete f...

Effect of milling time and microwave sintering on microhardness and electrical properties of nano and micro structured cordierite

The purpose of this research is to investigate the mechanical and electrical properties of nano structured cordierite. Nano grain size powders were synthesized through mechanical activation by high-energy ball milling of the starting powders containing 34.86 wt% Al2O3, 51.36 wt% SiO2, and 13.78 wt% MgO. Samples were prepared by conventional and microwave sintering at 1390°C. SEM observations il...

Effect of Calcination Kinetics and Microwave Sintering Parameters on Dielectric and Peizo-Electric Properties of(K0.5Na0.5) NBO3 Ceramics

An efficient solid-state approach was established to synthesize (K0.5Na0.5) NbO3 ceramics using calcination kinetics and microwave assisted sintering. Milling of carbonate and oxide raw materials were carried out for 15h to obtain homogeneous nano particles. The crystallite size of 5.30 nm was obtained for the KNN system after calcination through optimized parameters and observed to be stoichio...

Increasing of tetragonal zirconia formation in the reaction sintering of alumina-zircon

In this study it was tried to investigate on the effective parameters of the formation and increasing tetragonal zirconia phase in reaction sintering of alumina and zircon.  In this way, alumina and zircon powders were mixed by the ratio of 85 to 15 wt.% and sintered at different conditions. Sintering temperature (1500-1650˚C), furnace type (conventional and microwave) and the milling time of r...

In situ Investigation of Titanium Powder Microwave Sintering by Synchrotron Radiation Computed Tomography

In this study, synchrotron radiation computed tomography was applied to investigate the mechanisms of titanium powder microwave sintering in situ. On the basis of reconstructed images, we observed that the sintering described in this study differs from conventional sintering in terms of particle smoothing, rounding, and short-term growth. Contacted particles were also isolated. The kinetic curv...
